Summary:    
The Recreation Specialist is responsible for helping participants grow athletically and maintain healthy lifestyles through recreational activities. 
  
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 
  
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining the sports and recreation components of the Cornerstone program. 
  • Creating an intra-mural sports curriculum for the Teen and Afterschool program. 
  • Collecting participants’ report cards and monitoring educational progress. 
  • Organizing activities related to sports and recreation. 
  • Organizing annual tournaments and sports clinics and participating in local and citywide tournaments. 
  • Recruitment of participants 
  • Organize all sports and recreational activities. 
  • Escort participants to sports-related events. 
  • Supervise all sports and recreational-related activities. 
  • Participate in all staff meetings. 
  • Assist in maintaining participant files in order. 
 
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: 
This is a part-time position. Work hours are 6 pm to 10 pm Monday through Friday and 10 am to 5 pm on Saturdays. 
 
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 hourly 
Qualifications 
 
Education and/or experience required: 
  • High School Diploma or GED; working towards or possessing an AA or BA degree a plus. 
  • Must be at least 18 years old. 
  • Submit background checks in compliance with DOE, DYCD, DOH, and SACC regulations. 
  • Strong knowledge of sports and recreation, with a minimum of one year of experience in organizing tournaments and working with youth. 
 
Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required: 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability and patience to work with children and young people, recognizing their exuberance and juvenile behavior, particularly in group settings. 
  • Ability to physically demonstrate athletic moves and techniques to participants 
  • Move for long periods, providing instruction. 
  • Travel when taking field trips, using public transportation, traversing city streets, ascending/descending stairs, and being exposed to outside weather conditions while escorting youth.
