Summary: The Feeding Our Neighbors Program provides emergency meals to individuals and families who deal with issues of hunger and food insecurity across the Archdiocese of NY. Our goals are to provide healthy nutritious meals with compassion and dignity to anyone who is in need. This position will serve as a vital link between clients seeking emergency food and other supportive services that foster family stability and healthy living. This position will work with clients to access and obtain supportive services, referral resources and pubic benefits including SNAP.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Conducts thorough needs assessment of individual and family who come to our Bronx food pantry. Clients will be evaluated on their needs beyond the presenting issue and will be connected with on-going social services and/or referrals that will provide short term and long term support.
  • Assist individuals and families who come to our food programs with SNAP eligibility, enrollment and other public benefits. In particular, use comprehensive and up-to-date information and resources about the SNAP program to facilitate enrollment, re-certification, and on-going participation in the program. This  will include outreach efforts and presentations at local community based organizations.
  • Support our network of food hub programs by providing case management services and outreach activities to clients at different site locations. Based on a set schedule, Case Managers will be deployed to other food programs to share information on SNAP, public benefits and other social services that will help stabilize the family.
  • Provide information and referrals to clients on useful resources which include government programs, community based organizations, CC affiliated agencies, and CCCS programs.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with government programs, local elected officials, neighbor associations, community based organizations, CC affiliated agencies and CCCS programs.
  • Conduct follow up with clients to ensure that stability and goals have been obtained and/or that additional assistance is needed.
  • Assist with the program services of the Bronx food pantry/food hub as needed or required by supervisor.
  • Enter all client information into appropriate database(s) as required by program  or funding source(s). Ensure that contract or program deliverables are understood, met and achieved as required.
  • Maintain good record keeping, documentation and maintain good communication with all external and internal personnel to ensure efficiency in work and caseload management. Conduct  case review of files  with supervisor as needed to ensure program compliance.
  • Assist Supervisor, department staff and/or other agency personnel as needed to support program operations. Attend staff meetings as directed.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Salary- $23.62 - $24.72, this is a non-exempt hourly position based on a 35 hours work week or $43,000 - $45,000 annually.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally 9:00 AM to 5 PM Monday - Friday. Additional hours may be required to meet program deadlines, or client needs.
 
Working conditions and physical demands required:
The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Travel for outreach activities, presentations, and/or escorting clients may be required at least 50% of the time using reliable transportation, traversing streets, ascending/descending stairs, and exposed to outside weather conditions.
Ability to work with the public and/or challenging clients
Remain in a stationary position at a work-station and use a computer approximately 50% of the time. Potential to carry a laptop to offsite work locations

Qualifications

Education and/or experience required:
Associate’s degree / or a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a social services setting

Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required:

Bilingual, English/Spanish a plus
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills 
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power point
