Location: 1155 University Avenue
Summary: Responsible for providing individual needs assessment and developing short and long-term goals. The Youth Worker is also responsible for the overall planning and monitoring of the Youth Council and Participant recruitment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Conduct initial needs assessment, intake, and orientation of new participants.
- Create short and long-term goals for participants based on the needs assessment.
- Maintain teen participant folders and applications.
- Develop and implement lesson plans for Youth Council and youth leadership activities and special initiatives.
- Collect participant’s report cards to monitor their educational progress and keep track of youth academic life.
- Monitor and track participant attendance and conduct outreach to support retention.
- Assist with the recruitment of teen participants.
- Co-facilitate Parent Meetings
- Responsible for keeping the Program Director and Assistant Director informed of any changes and abnormalities that may occur.
- Submit weekly reports to the Program Director and Assistant Director on a timely basis.
- Attend all program staff meetings, trainings, and special events.
- Assist other staff when needed.
- Other duties as assigned
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a part-time position. Work hours are as follows: Monday-Friday, 5 pm-9 pm. Some Saturdays, 12 pm-5 pm. Monday – Friday

- Ability and patience to work with children and young people, recognizing their exuberance and juvenile behavior, particularly in group settings.
- Remain in a stationary position, either working at a computer or monitoring activities.
- Move for long periods, providing instruction.
- Travel when taking field trips, using public transportation, traversing city streets, ascending/descending stairs, and being exposed to outside weather conditions while escorting youth.
Qualifications:
Education and/or experience required:
- Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED or working towards an AA or BA degree preferred
- 2 years of Youth Worker experience
- Experience facilitating workshops and providing one-on-one peer mediation preferred
Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required:
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teams
- Demonstrated ability to work with families who face exceptional challenges
- Excellent social skills demonstrative of empathy and support
