Summary: The Community Services Program Coordinator will be responsible for assisting with launching, developing and administering a comprehensive and innovative program at the Betances Houses, an affordable housing complex located in the South Bronx. This position will work closely with the Program Director for Community Engagement and Tenant Advocate, residents, building management, and other stakeholders to foster a safe and healthy living environment for residents, help strengthen a sense of community, and ensure that the mission of Catholic Charities Community Services is upheld in all aspects of service delivery. This position will play a key role in administering programs as they develop. This position will also play a key part in structuring, coordinating, and organizing small, medium, and large-scale community events on but not limited to the Betances Houses properties.
Salary: $27.47 - $30.22, this is a non-exempt hourly position based on a 35 hours work week or $50,000 - $55,000 annually.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate comprehensive Community and Social Services Program that falls within three categories: Supportive Services; Community—Resident collaboration and participation; and Management—Resident collaboration. 
  • Supportive Services: 
    • Assist with managing pop-up food pantries, goods distributions and other essential services outreach 
    • Provide limited case management services, in collaboration with the Tenant Advocate and supervisor and ensure accurate data entry, case notes and client service plans are maintained in our electronic case management database.
  • Community—Resident Collaboration and participation:  
    • Conduct an ongoing needs assessment of the resident population based on routine evaluation of available demographic and census data, intermittent surveys, and on-site “grass roots” engagement with the Residents and Community Based Organizations (CBO’s).
    • Create working relationships with residents (including but not limited to the Resident’s Association) by taking a strengths-based approach to building community, capacity, and self sufficiency.
    • Develop coalitions with local CBO’s and community stakeholders in the South Bronx in order to ensure knowledge of and access to services, and participate in advocacy initiatives.
    • Develop and plan relevant community events and gatherings. 
  • Management—Resident collaboration: 
    • Develop and coordinate a curriculum of educational and recreational activities.
    • Collaborate with management with specific emphasis on safety protocols, emergency preparedness, housekeeping and maintaining a sanitary environment, overall resident satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain documentation practices, collect and identify data trends, create and provide timely reports to the Program Director.
  • Recruit & supervise resident/community volunteers for large & small-scale events, programming, and food pantry distributions.
  • Supervise interns and volunteers for various events & programming.
  • Maintain detailed logs.

  • Adhere to all Community Outreach Services policies and procedures, duties, attendance, and hours worked.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary and could include evening hours as needed. Additional hours may be required to meet program deadlines, or client needs.

  • Assess and work in varied home environmental conditions.
  • Interact with clients who require consistent and comprehensive support, some under potentially stressful conditions.
  • COVID-19 pandemic presents numerous risks to employees and clients. This position is expected to interact (practicing social distancing) with potentially asymptomatic, possibly symptomatic clients with proper PPE (personal protective equipment).
  • Remain in a stationary position at a workstation and use a computer approximately 40% of the time.

Qualifications:

Education and/or experience:
  • BA/BS required. Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. 

Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies:

  • Community organizing and ability to interface with Local Officials, CBO Executive Directors, Board Members and Resident’s Association Members.
  • Must have excellent relationship building, time management, interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills. 
  • Must be a self-starter and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with programs/services targeted at underserved groups, including minority and immigrant communities. 
  • Knowledge of affordable housing policies, compliance, and tenants’ rights and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively including excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer programs including Microsoft Word and Excel.
