Summary: The Project Coordinator for the Life Skills Project for Unaccompanied Children is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of a comprehensive life skills education program for unaccompanied children. This role involves creating an engaging and supportive environment where unaccompanied children can acquire practical skills related to personal development, communication, decision-making, career readiness, secondary education, and other essential life competencies. 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities including the following:
 
  • Design, implement, and evaluate a curriculum of life skills topics for unaccompanied children, including conflict resolution, personal development, goal setting, job readiness.
  • Plan and organize workshops, group activities, and events to engage participants and ensure educational outcomes are met.
  • Adapt workshop offerings based on participants’ needs and feedback.
  • Coordinate both in-person and remote workshops including inviting guest speakers, and plan and implement several field trips for participants to enhance their learning experience.
  • Lead interactive and dynamic sessions with participants, using a variety of teaching methods to ensure engagement and retention of content.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to participants, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment with children from multi-cultural backgrounds.
  • Monitor participants’ progress, providing encouragement, and address challenges they may encounter.
  • Establish partnerships with local businesses, community leaders, and organizations to enhance program opportunities and resources.
  • Maintain accurate records of participant attendance, progress, and feedback.
  • Assist in preparing reports detailing program outcomes and participant success stories.
  • Work with other staff members, volunteers, and community partners to ensure cohesive program delivery.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and shelter officials regarding participants’ attendance, progress, and upcoming events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree completed or in process in Education, Social Work, Youth Development, Psychology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Previous experience working with immigrant populations.
  • Must pass required FBI fingerprint and Child Abuse and Neglect background checks.
  • Experience in program management, curriculum development, or youth mentoring.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with strong problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.   
  • Excellent organizational skills, communication (oral & written), and interpersonal skills.  
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.) 
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment.  
 
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
  • This is a part-time, temporary position through August 2025. 
  • Approximately 20 per week, Mon – Thurs 3pm – 7pm, including some weekends and earlier start times for trips and school holidays.    
  • The position may require flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the schedules of participants.
  • Some travel may be required for outreach activities and field trips.
Working conditions and physical demands required:   
The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   
  • Ability to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area using reliable transportation, traversing streets, ascending/descending stairs, and exposed to outside weather conditions.  
  • Remain in a stationary position at a workstation and use a computer approximately 80% of the time. 
  • Ability to arrange and move office equipment such as tables, chairs, and electronic gear in preparation for
  • group meetings/events as needed.
